Kathy Radoslovich is one of 31 Australia-wide postgraduate students to be awarded a Ramsay Centre postgraduate scholarship. She has also been awarded an Ivan Shearer Scholarship. Both scholarships offer Kathy the opportunity to study at the University of Cambridge UK.
Kathy will study for a Masters degree (MPhil) in medieval history and reside at King’s College. Her thesis will explore women’s experiences of heresy. She hopes this experience will help her carve a career as a professional historian in Australia, deepening our understanding of our past.
“We are delighted Kathy has been recognised with these two outstanding postgraduate scholarships. As she demonstrated in 2008, when she was awarded a C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship, Kathy was clearly going to be an outstanding student and a major contributor to society. We are confident her time at Cambridge will provide her with rich and rewarding experiences, and we wish her every success,” Chair of the C.A.S. Hawker Memorial Scholarship Trust Mr. Andrew Hawker said.
The Ivan Shearer Scholarship was created through a generous bequest to St Mark’s College from the late Professor Ivan Shearer AM RFD, to support St Mark’s College Collegians to study at Oxford or Cambridge. A distinguished international lawyer, Ivan Shearer (1938-2019) was Dean of St Mark’s from 1968 to 1971 and was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the College in 2005.
The Ivan Shearer Scholarship is awarded on the basis of excellence in intellect, character, leadership, and service, and a demonstrated need for financial support to study at Oxford or Cambridge (for details of the Ivan Shearer Scholarship for 2024-2025, click here)
The $90,000 Ramsay Centre Scholarships have been made possible by the late Paul Ramsay AO. Paul Ramsay founded Ramsay Health Care, one of the largest private hospital operators in Australia. He was also a regional television pioneer, building stations that today form the Prime Television Network.
Paul Ramsay had a profound sense of gratitude for the opportunities Australia had afforded him. He wanted younger Australians to share that appreciation by learning more about Australia’s heritage and to take the lead in passing that knowledge on to others (for the announcement of Kathy’s Ramsay Scholarship, click here)
“The opportunities offered by being awarded a Ramsay Centre and an Ivan Shearer Scholarship, wouldn't have happened without the foundation I gained at St Mark's as a C.A.S. Hawker Scholar. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities that the Hawker, the Ramsay and the Shearer Scholarships have already, and will continue to provide me in the future,” Kathy Radoslovich said.
Kathy is an outstanding individual and an exceptional student. She loves learning. She also believes everyone should make the best of every opportunity they are given, and always look on the positive side of life. She enjoys a challenge and sets high standards for herself.
She grew up in Adelaide and attended East Marden Primary School, where she was identified as a Student of High Intellectual Potential. She was accepted into Glenunga International High School’s IGNITE Program and completed the International Baccalaureate in 2006 with a TER of 99.8.
Kathy then graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of International Studies with First Class Honours, and a Bachelor of Development Studies. Her academic distinction was recognised with several University of Adelaide and St Mark’s College scholarships and prizes, and she continues to serve as an academic tutor at the College.
Active over many years in the Scouts, in 2011-12 she served as a Capacity Development Officer with the Scouts Association of Timor Leste, including running the National Office for six months. This was a highly formative experience for Kathy.
Before returning to St Mark’s in 2018 as Director of Learning, Kathy worked as an Analyst with the Defence Science and Technology Organisation, as a Research Assistant with Helping Hand Aged Care, in various roles with South Australia Police, and as a Youth Worker with the Wiltja Residential Program supporting Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara-speaking high school students from remote areas.
Since returning to St Mark’s as Director of Learning (2018-20), responsible for running the College’s academic program of support for students, Kathy has worked also as Registrar (2020-23), responsible for marketing the College and student enrolments, which have reached record levels in 2023 and 2024. Since July 2023, her primary role at St Mark’s has been Research and Scholarships Manager. Kathy also has several academic and professional publications.
Kathy will take unpaid leave from the College while she undertakes the MPhil in medieval history at Cambridge. She wishes in this course to strengthen her skills as a historian with strong grounding in historiological methodologies and advanced archival research skills. An enthusiastic linguist, Kathy will also strengthen her command of Latin and palaeography, the study of pre-modern manuscripts.
