Nicholas was appointed a College Prefect, House Captain and Captain of Debating in 2024 at Prince Alfred College (PAC). His time as Captain of Debating taught him there are two sides to every story. It is a learned lesson which assists the way he lives his life.
Nicholas demonstrated exceptional leadership and a strong desire to give back to his community. This was most evident as House Captain and within the debating program through his exhaustive efforts to support the development of younger students. This was done while he maintained his own engagement in debating as a state debater. This culminated in Nicholas being awarded the Todd Golding Medal for the Best Speaker in the South Australian Debating Team in 2024.
Nicholas was awarded Senior School Academic Honours as well as Service and Leadership Prizes. He is a talented IB student. In year twelve he received the ADF Long Tan leadership Prize. Last year Nicholas developed and facilitated year-level conversations with younger boys about the treatment of young women and the female staff at PAC. A number of female teachers appreciated this development and believed it made a positive difference.
He received Co-curricular Honours for Debating, the school’s highest award for co-curricular achievement. It recognizes both individual talent as well as leadership and service. Nicholas was part of the South Australian Schools’ Debating Team in 2022, 2023, and 2024, which included winning South Australia’s first national title in twenty-six years at the 2023 National Schools’ Debating Championships. He was awarded Best Speaker for the State Team in 2024.
He has been involved in the Evatt Model UN, reaching the SA final in 2021 and 2022 and winning in 2023. In 2024 he competed in the Bond University High School Mooting Competition, where his team was placed third. Nicholas was awarded Best Orator.
Nicholas Henchliffe will make a serious contribution and a difference to Australia.
